Chesy girls can#039;t hit FTs

ALBANY - These free throws were costly.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers were unable to make free throws, especially in the fourth quarter, and lost 48-38 to the Alexander Lady Spartans Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers made just 15 of 33 foul shots including just 6 of 18 in the fourth quarter.

"If the ball starts going down, we'll be all right," Lady Panthers coach John McClung. "We just couldn't make a foul shot.

"We got what we wanted. We got a steal and we got fouled. We're working hard, we just need to get the ball to go down."

Conversely, Alexander connected on 10 of 12 at the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Candace Dickerson and Brittany Boyle had 8 points each to lead Chesapeake (0-2). Joanna Delimpo scored 7 and Sarah Rucker 6, all in the second half.

Keilee Guthrie scored 13 for Alexander.

Alexander led 18-14 at the half and 28-24 after three quarters.

The Lady Panthers host Portsmouth at 6 p.m. Saturday.
