State agency OKs grant for refuse station

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has approved a $92,000 grant for equipment at a proposed solid waste transfer and recycling station to serve Lawrence County.

Rumpke of Ohio has requested the grant which was given to the Lawrence County Commission for Rumpke's proposed project.

that includes, among other things, site selection and Environmental Protection Agency permits. Mootz said he did not know when such a transfer and recycling station would actually be ready for use.

Commissioners said they were in favor of a transfer station to alleviate some of the county's solid waste disposal issues, so long as the actual facility were located within the county's borders.

"I support this 100 percent if it's located in Lawrence County," Commissioner George Patterson said. "I think we need it. I want to work with them but I don't want it to go anywhere else."

Also Thursday, the commission gave its approval to a list of appointment to the Lawrence County Homeland Security team. The commission also agreed to notify the Lawrence County Engineer's Office of the poor condition of a bridge on County Road 276 N. in Fayette Township.

The commission will meet in regular session next Tuesday, instead of Thursday, to accommodate Thanksgiving.
