WILLOW WOOD - Going farther in the tournament means traveling a little farther.

The Division VI Region 23 championship game will be at Lancaster High School as the Symmes Valley Vikings meet the Danville Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Vikings are 10-1 and Danville 10-2 coming into the game. The winner advances to the state semifinals.

"We're back in the same neighborhood. Instead of going to Chillicothe, we just hang a right and go another half hour," Vikings coach Rusty Webb said.

Symmes Valley played at Chillicothe High School last week and beat Newark Catholic 16-3. Danville upset Lancaster Fisher Catholic 7-6 on a blocked extra point.

In the final computer ratings, Symmes Valley was No. 2 in the region and Danville finished eighth.

The Division V Region 19 championship game will pair the top two teams in the final computer ratings. Top-seeded and 2003 runner-up Amanda-Clearcreek (12-0) will meet No. 2 Wheelersburg (11-1).

Clearcreek was ranked first in the final Associated Press poll. Wheelersburg, riding an 11-game winning streak after a 21-0 opening game loss to Ironton, finished ranked 10th.
