NEW BOSTON - If at first you don't succeed, try again.

That's what the New Boston Tigers did Saturday night as they got past the St. Joseph Flyers 68-60.

Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said the Flyers failed to keep New Boston off the boards and allowed too many putback baskets.

"We gave them too many second chance points. We weren't boxing out," Hacker said. "We didn't play bad defense other than not boxing out."

The Flyers had four players in double figures led by Ryan Staton with 17 points. Corey Lewis scored 12 points, Michael Basedow 11 and Ryan Schwab added 10.

"Ryan Staton stepped up and played real well," Hacker said. "Corey Lewis is doing a better job knocking down the free throws when he goes to the line, but we still missed too may foul shots."

The Flyers were just 13 of 23 from the line although Lewis was 8 of 12.

Mike Day and Rocky Dunkin led New Boston with 19 points each. Mark Salisbury had 12 points and Chris Lawson 11.

Day had 8 points in the first quarter as New Boston went up 16-12. Lewis and Staton had 4 each to keep the Flyers close.

Dunkin scored 10 points in the second quarter as New Boston stretched its lead to 35-24. Basedow had two baskets and Lewis sank four foul shots.

Staton came off the bench to score 9 points in the third quarter as St. Joseph cut into the lead at 51-41.

Ryan Waginger nailed a pair of 3-pointers and Schwab scored 7 points in the fourth quarter as St. Joseph began to rally, but Lawson scored 7 points to prevent the comeback bid.
