And the seniors will lead you.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tiger seniors Andrea Rudmann and Sarah Cartmell capped off their high school volleyball careers by being named to the coaches Southeast Ohio All-District first team.

Rudmann, a three-year starter, was first team all-district after being honorable mention as a sophomore and first team as a junior.

Rudmann finished with 83 percent in serve reception, 98 percent in freeball passing, and 89 percent in serving with 96 aces. In her first role as a setter, she had an 89 percent average and also an 86 percent assist average. She had 60 digs with 196 kills and 55 blocks.

She was named to the Wheelersburg all-tournament team.

"Andrea is one of those players who never quits and always looked for ways to improve herself and her team," Ironton coach Beth Freeman said. "We will truly miss her next year and I hope that the younger girls looked up to her and will take some of her characteristics for next season."

Cartmell, all-district honorable mention last season, was a first team pick and has been chosen to play for the Pepsi-Cola All-Star Team that will play in Pennsylvania.

Besides her high school career, Cartmell made the River Citi Thunder National Traveling Team (club ball) of Huntington, W.Va., that is affiliated with Marshall University. She started for the traveling team.

Cartmell had an 85 percent reception, 98 percent freeball passing, 96 percent serving and missed only six serves all season (189 of 195). She led the team with 71 digs and had 171 kills plus a team-high 62 solo blocks.

"Sarah just loves the game," Freeman said. "She played with great determination and never quit. She played with a lot of heart and worked hard to improve her game. Her shoes will be hard to fill."

Cartmell and Rudmann were both captains the past two seasons. The two helped Ironton (14-6) win its first-ever sectional volleyball title and advance to the district tournament where they lost to eventual state runner-up Westfall.
