PEDRO - Chelsea Markins is hard to stop when she's guarded. She's even tougher when given uncontested shots.

Markins was 12 of 15 from the foul line as she led the Coal Grove Lady Hornets to a 48-35 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Markins finished with a game-high 24 points including 14 in the second half as Coal Grove improved to 4-1.

"Chelsea had another good game. She hit a lot of clutch shots, especially in the fourth quarter," Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said.

Samantha Hall added 10 points for the Lady Hornets.

Michelle Pancake had 6 points and Bobbi Harper 5 to lead the Redwomen, 0-3.

"It's always good to get a league win and to win on the road," Miller said. "Rock Hill has a young team, but we're a young team, too. We played pretty well."

Rock Hill took an 11-10 lead in the first quarter as Katrina Settle scored 4 points.

But Markins had 7 points in the second quarter as the Lady Hornets rallied to take a 26-21 halftime lead.

Markins scored 6 points in the third quarter including a 3-pointer and the lead was 38-29. Mandi McKenzie kept Rock Hill close with 4 points.

Markins scored 8 of Coal Grove's 10 points in the fourth quarter including 6 of 6 from the foul line to preserve the win.

"Once we got the lead, we went into our spread offense and the kids did a good job with it," Miller said.

In the reserve game, Coal Grove (2-1) won 30-28 as Brittany Harrison scored 8 points and Caymie Collier 6. Samantha Harris had 7 points and Anna Bridges 6 to lead Rock Hill.
