WILLOW WOOD - Maybe the third quarter jinx has been broken.

After struggling in the third quarter all season, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings dominated after halftime en route to a 55-26 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Monday.

The Lady Vikings led 31-9 at the half, then outscored Rock Hill 16-4 in the third quarter and coasted to the win.

"We got past that third quarter letdown," Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said. "We were able to get (Mandi) McKenzie in foul trouble. We were patient on offense and the girls did a nice job all the way around. They're a very unselfish group."

Rebecca Capper led Symmes Valley with 17 points and Leslie Floyd scored 10.

The Lady Vikings controlled the backboards with 43 rebounds and had 23 steals. Tiffany Bryant pulled down 11 rebounds, Capper had 10 rebounds and three steals, Megan Coomes six rebounds and Floyd five rebounds and four steals.

"Our rebounding was better tonight and we forced a lot of steals," Bryant said.

McKenzie had 8 points to pace the Redwomen, 0-2.

Capper had 9 points including a 3-pointer in the first quarter as the Lady Vikings jumped in front 14-4.

After outscoring the Redwomen 17-5 in the third quarter, Capper had 6 points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 47-13.

On Thursday, the Lady Vikings hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame at 6 p.m. in a varsity only Southern Ohio Conference game while Rock Hill hosts Coal Grove in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
