WAYNE, W.Va. - Three out of four ain't bad, but it's not good enough.

The Fairland Dragons dominated the Wayne Pioneers for three quarters, but they collapsed in the fourth quarter in losing 56-53 Tuesday.

Fairland led by as many as 15 points late in the third quarter only to see Wayne get 5 points in the final 20 seconds, then outscore the Dragons 23-11 in the fourth quarter.

"We just stopped playing the fourth quarter. We played not to lose instead of playing to win," Fairland coach Chad Belville said.

"We played well for three quarters and everything we did right, we did the exact opposite in the fourth quarter."

Kyle Wise scored 7 points in the first quarter including a 3-pointer as Fairland took a 13-11 lead. Wise hit a pair of 3-pointers and converted 5 of 6 from the line in the first half as the Dragons extended their lead to 29-24 at the half.

After the Dragons built a 15-point lead late in the third quarter, it quickly evaporated and Wayne made its dramatic comeback as Brenick Stumbo scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Stumbo led Wayne with 15 points. Trevor Marcum had 10 points.

Wise led Fairland with a game-high 19 points. Josh Johnson added 9 points and Todd Maynard grabbed four rebounds.

"Wise found his stroke tonight, and J.B. Smith played a heck of game defensively," Belville said.

Fairland hosts arch-rival Chesapeake Friday at 7:30 p.m. in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
