PROCTORVILLE - A win is a win is a win.

Even though head coach Chad Belville wasn't totally satisfied with his Fairland Dragon team, he wasn't complaining after the Dragons won their first game of the season 69-67 over the Ironton St. Joseph Flyers Tuesday.

The win was the first after five loss for the Dragons, but they were guilty of 22 turnovers and made just 27 of 62 field goal attempts (43.5 percent).

"The first half we played with no emotion. The second half, we picked up our intensity and offensively we started to execute," Belville said after getting his first career win as the Dragons head coach. "When you start doing the little things, then something good happens. We played as well offensively the second half as we can play."

St. Joseph went up 14-6, but Nick Zundel hit a 3-pointer and Ethan Black had a putback at the buzzer to make it 14-13 at the end of the quarter.

Corey Lewis and Ryan Staton had 10 points in the first half as the Flyers went up 33-24 at the break.

J.B. Smith had 8 points and Todd Maynard 7 in the first half for the Dragons.

"We didn't play well defensively, but St. Joe has some nice, athletic kids and they played really hard," Belville said. "J.B. Smith kept us in the ball game the first half."

Maynard scored 9 points, Matt Burd 5 and the Fairland defense forced nine turnovers in the third quarter as the Dragons tied the game at 50-50.

"Smith gives us a lot of energy, and Matt Burd got hot and kept going," Belville said.

Kurt Jordan was 7 of 10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter for the Flyers , but the Dragons managed to go ahead 64-61 on a pair of foul shots by Maynard. Josh Johnson was 3 of 4 at the line as the Dragons scratched out the win.

Burd led Fairland with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Maynard had 17 points and seven rebounds. Smith added 14 points.
