LOGAN - The Chesapeake Lady Panthers used their inside and outside play to turn the Vinton County Lady Vikings inside out.

With Sara Rucker and Noelle Wood combining for 36 points, the Lady Panthers beat Vinton County 52-43 in the Logan Holiday Invitational.

Rucker had 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots while Wood had 16 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.

"The guards did a good job penetrating the lane and dumping the ball to Rucker," Chesapeake coach John McClung said. "Rucker had one of her best games. She controlled the paint for us offensively and defensively.

"(Brittany) Boyle and (Candace) Dickerson did a good job getting Rucker the ball. Noelle did a good job running the floor and getting some transition baskets. (Brittany) Sowards knows her role and she played it well."

Rucker had 10 points the first quarter and Brittany Boyle added 5 as Chesapeake built a 17-3 lead.

The lead was 24-16 at the half and Wood scored 6 points in the third quarter to put the Lady Panthers up 35-26.

Wood and Dickerson scored 6 points each and Rucker 5 in the fourth quarter as both teams scored 17 points. Chesapeake converted 6 of 9 from the foul line in the quarter.

"We played good as a team. We didn't take care of the ball like we should have in the second half, but we made our free throws when we had to," McClung said.

Chesapeake (5-5) plays Minford at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the tournament finals.
