PROCTORVILLE - Three out of four ain't bad, but it's not quite good enough.

The Fairland Dragons played well for three quarters, but that fourth quarter was the difference as they lost 57-44 to the Gallipolis Blue Devils Tuesday.

Fairland (1-6) trailed just 25-23 at the half before Gallipolis turned the game around in the third quarter en route to the win.

"We played awful well for three quarters. We're starting to progress and learn the system. It just seems we have one quarter that kills us," Panthers coach Chad Belville said.

"We rushed a lot of shots. We're young and still learning how to play the game."

Josh Johnson had 6 points and five different Dragons scored as they took a 16-12 first quarter lead.

"We did a nice job of being patient," Belville said. "Johnson played really solid for us."

Fairland managed just seven points in the second quarter and fell behind 25-23 at the half. Gallipolis went on a 5-0 run to start the second half and ended the third quarter leading 41-32.

"We just gave them too many second chances," Belville said.

The Dragons cut the deficit to within nine points in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Devils sank five foul shots to close the game.

Todd Maynard led the Dragons with 15 points while Johnson had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Gallipolis had four players in double figures as Kyle Hudson scored 13, Zach Shawver 12, Shawn Thompson 11 and Alex Kyger 10 points.
