Two-vehicle crash sends 4 to hospital

Four members of an Arkansas family were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Ironton Monday.

Christopher D. Heaberlin, 16, of Ironton was traveling northbound on State Route 93 where it passes beneath U.S. 52 when a mini-van driven by Jon D. Bontempo of Paragould, Ark., failed to yield when turning left, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.

Bontempo pulled in front of Heaberlin and was struck on the left side the van. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and left shattered debris scattered across the roadway.

Bontempo will be charged with failure to yield, according to the Patrol

Heaberlin, who was traveling alone, was transported by the Southeast Ohio Emergency Medical Services to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was not a patient Tuesday morning.

All three passengers in Bontempo's vehicle were transported by SEOEMS to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Brenda J. Bontempo, Maria I. Bontempo and Jon J. Bontempo were all treated and released.

The Ironton Police Department, Ironton Fire Department and Lawrence County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
