SUMMIT, Ky. - Turn those horses loose.

Coach Amy Hughes opened the corral and sent her team off and running Wednesday as they beat the Pike County Central Lady Hawks 52-45 and claimed third place in the KFC/Pepsi Colonel's Classic basketball tournament Wednesday.

"We got back to doing what we do best and that's running up and down the floor," Hughes said. "We're at our best when we're running and we did a better job of using our fullcourt game."

Sara Hacker, who was selected to the all-tournament team, had 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Lady Fighting Tigers.

Mandi Boykin had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Ironton (10-1) while Jessica Waddle came off the bench to score 12 points. Andrea Rudmann had six rebounds.

"The girls played hard. I was pleased with our effort," Hughes said. "Sara didn't force her shots and Mandi did a better job of putting the game in a higher gear. I thought Jessica Waddle did a nice job for us."

Pike Central (6-7), a state tournament qualifier last year with all five starters returning, was led by Mishay Weddington with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kim Coleman had 11 points and Haley Ratliff 10.

Ironton led most of the first half although the game was tied on four occasions including 25-25 on a 10-footer by Ratliff. But Waddle hit the second of two foul shots with 26 seconds to go in the half and Ironton was up 26-25.

The Lady Fighting Tigers went on a 9-2 run to begin the second half and take a 35-27 lead. Pike County got the final 3 points of the quarter and trailed 38-32.

A 3-point play by Coleman with 5:49 to play gave the Hawks their first lead at 39-38. A 10-footer by Hacker put Ironton up for good at 40-39 with 5:27 left.

Pike Central drew within 48-45, but Waddle sank two foul shots and Boykin had a steal and fed Waddle for a layup with 34 seconds left to seal the win.

Christian County routed Boyd County 62-42 to win the tournament.
