SOUTH POINT - Coach Dave Adams wants his South Point Lady Pointers to quit flipping the on and off switch.

South Point started strong, eased off, then turned their play back on as they beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 62-47 in the semifinals of the South Point Holiday Tournament Wednesday.

The Lady Pointers led by as many as 12 points early, saw the lead shrink to 6, then pulled away in the fourth quarter.

"We got up early and then we had a phase at the end of the third quarter when they just outhustled us. We made some turnovers and let them back in the game," Adams said.

"But we picked it back up in the fourth quarter. We play hard all the time, we just made some mistakes."

Jessi Craft had 18 points and Alisha Bridges 15 to lead South Point, now 8-1. Summer Malone added 11 points.

Tonya McKenzie and Sarah Barney had 13 points each for Portsmouth (5-5).

Craft scored 6 points while Bridges and Malone got 4 each as South Point jumped on the Lady Trojans 18-8 in the first quarter.

Barney and Jennifer Bendolph combined for 9 points in the second quarter as Portsmouth trailed 34-26 at

the half.

The Lady Trojans got within 43-37 at the end of the third quarter despite 6 more points from Craft.

But Bridges scored 6 points in the fourth quarter as South Point slowly pulled away to the win.

The Lady Pointers will play Northwest in the championship game Thursday. Fairland faces Portsmouth in the consolation game at 6 p.m.

"Northwest has a good team with some size and a lot of shooters," Adams said.
