Balanced offense triggers Symmes Valley win over Titans in SOC

WILLOW WOOD - Things went as scheduled.

The Symmes Valley Vikings got the big win that was expected of them as they routed the winless Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 91-27 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"We did what we were expected to do and we got to play everybody and work on some things," Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said. "We got a big lead and it was tough to keep our intensity, but we still played hard."

Justin Ferguson and Matt Owens scored 16 points each to lead the Vikings who placed five players in double figures.

Chase Higgins had 12 points, Cory Burcham 10 points and Kyle Meadows 10 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Burnette also had 11 rebounds.

Burcham scored 8 of his points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley raced to a 20-7 lead.

Meadows got 6 points in the second quarter as the Vikings built a 39-18 halftime lead.

Ferguson got 12 of his 16 points in the third quarter as the Vikings outscored the Titans 32-4 to build an insurmountable 71-22 lead.

Symmes Valley is now 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the SOC.
