STRONGSVILLE (AP) - Police are investigating events at a party last week at the home of Browns left tackle Ross Verba, his lawyer said Monday night.

A woman who said she attended the party claims she was not wearing pants when she awoke in a bedroom Thursday morning, according to a police report.

The report called the woman's allegation a ''sex offense'' and a ''suspicious situation.'' An officer said Monday night that police in this Cleveland suburb were investigating.

Verba, the only Browns offensive lineman to start all 16 games this season, has not been accused of wrongdoing or charged with a crime. He has cooperated with police and answered their questions, lawyer Vince Stafford said, adding his office also is investigating.

Stafford said Verba does not know the woman and does not know who invited her to the party last Wednesday night. Verba has a roommate who is not a Browns player, Stafford said.

Verba was out with friends during the party and did not spend the night at his home, Stafford said.

''He categorically denies any contact with this person,'' Stafford said.
