Turnovers plague Female Flyers in loss to Eagles

WESTWOOD, Ky. - The St. Joseph Female Flyers biggest enemy is themselves.

Turnovers continued to plague the Female Flyers as they lost 46-36 to the Fairview Eagles Monday.

"We have to do a better job of handling the ball. We have to cut down on our turnovers," St. Joseph coach B.J. Hannon said.

Christina Harvey had 13 points, Raven Blake 10 and Danielle Blair 9 to lead the Female Flyers (4-6).

Brandi Mills and Hollie Adkins scored 12 points each and Ally Boyd 11 to pace Fairview (5-2).

Danielle Thompson hit a layup and Boyd made a 3-pointer to start the game and stake Fairview to a 5-0 lead. St. Joseph got within 5-4 before the Lady Eagles went up 9-4 with 4:05 left in the first quarter.

Harvey and Blake scored to cut the deficit to 9-8 with 1:07 on the clock, but the Lady Eagles led 11-8 at the end of the quarter.

Harvey and Blake scored to start the second quarter and gave St. Joseph a 12-11 lead at the 5:39 mark. Adkins scored with seconds left to put Fairview up, but Havey's 3-pointer helped the Female Flyers regain the lead at 15-13.

Boyd hit a foul shot and followed up the missed second shot. Evans scored with 4:20 left in the third quarter and it was 19-15. Harvey made two foul shots at the 1:57 mark only for Evans to score with 17 seconds left and Fairview led 21-17 at the half.

Blair's basket at the 5:25 mark of the third quarter cut the deficit to 21-19. Adkins had 4 straight points

to extend the lead to 25-19.

Harvey and Lindsay Dressel cut the deficit to 25-23, but Fairview scored 6 straight points to go up 31-25. Blair converted a 3-point play with time running out and it was 31-28.

In the fourth quarter, Fairview ran off 8 unanswered points and it was 39-28. Harvey scored with 3:41 to halt the streak, but Fairview went on a 7-0 run including 5 of 6 from the line.

Blair, Dressel and Blake all scored to close out the scoring for the Flyers.
