Basedow, Flyers roll past Titans

PORTSMOUTH - The flower is starting to bloom.

Sophomore Michael Basedow continued his hot-shooting as he scored 23 points to lead the St. Joseph Flyers to a 67-37 win over the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans Saturday.

Ryan Staton had a big game with 17 points while Corey Lewis added 8 points.

"We shot pretty good. Basedow is playing a lot better. He's starting to step it up. Staton is playing aggressive and strong underneath," Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said.

Basedow scored 5 points in the first quarter as the Flyers eased out to an 11-8 lead.

Lewis and Basedow had 6 points each and Ryan Staton was 4 of 6 from the foul line in the second quarter as St. Joseph built a 28-17 halftime lead.

Basedow erupted for 10 points in the third quarter and the Flyers held the Titans to just a single field goal by Matt Mader and the lead ballooned to 49-19.

Ryan Waginger came off the bench to score 5 points and Staton had 5 points as each team scored 18 points.

"Our defense was better tonight. We're improving," Hacker said.

Schuettle had 10 points for the Titans (0-12).
