Lady Pointers get big win over Lady Panthers

SOUTH POINT - It might not have been the South Point Lady Pointers most prolific win, but it very well could have been their biggest.

The Lady Pointers beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 41-29 Monday to take a two-game lead in the Ohio Valley Conference race.

"It's really big because it puts us up by at least two games ahead of everyone in the conference. But we're not trying to get ahead of ourselves. A two-game lead is comfortable, but it's far from over," Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said.

South Point is now 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the OVC. Chesapeake falls to 8-7 and 4-2 in the league, tied for second place with Fairland.

With the offenses struggling, Chesapeake took a 6-5 lead after the first quarter. Things got worse in the second quarter for the Lady Panthers who managed just 3 points and fell behind 15-9 at the half.

"(Alisha) Bridges and (Jessi) Craft sat out a lot of the first half in foul trouble and we could never get our offense going," Adams said.

Six players scored in the third quarter as South Point upped its lead to 26-17.

Bridges sank 6 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter while Craft hit a 3-pointer and was 3 of 4 at the line as the Lady Pointers pulled away.

Adams said the Lady Pointers were plagued by 26 turnovers.

"We tried to press to speed up the game, but we just kept turning the ball over," Adams said. "It wasn't a very pretty game, but I'll take it. We played hard."

Bridges and Craft had 10 points each for the Lady Pointers. Latisha Koukos grabbed 11 rebounds.

Brittany Boyle had 11 points and Candace Dickerson 10 to lead Chesapeake.
