And the Fairland Lady Dragons did just that as they cruised past the Ohio Valley Christian Lady Defenders 71-23 Monday.

"It was a good team effort and a nice victory," Fairland coach Mindy Chapman said. "The ladies relaxed and focused on basketball."

Fairland held OVC without a field goal over the first 8:56 of the game. The Lady Defenders' only points in the first quarter were two foul shots.

The defense also forced 19 turnovers in the first half and 30 for the game. The Lady Dragons outrebounded OVC 49-23 including 24-11 in the first half.

Kara Riley had a dominating performance with 21 points and 20 rebounds. She also had four steals.

Erika Smoot added 13 points as Fairland improved to 8-9.

Hallie Carter scored 14 points for OVC (4-9).

Brianna Davis, Megan Auxier and Riley scored 5 points each in the first quarter as Fairland jumped in front 17-2.

Riley had 10 points in the second quarter

as Fairland opened up a 39-9 halftime cushion.
