WILLOW WOOD - Back on the court and back in the race.

After a long layoff due to the weather, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings returned to action Monday with a 60-46 win over the Green Lady Bobcats that put the Vikings within a game of first place.

"Our girls played well on both ends of the floor tonight," Symmes Valley coach Lisa Bryant said. "With no games or practice since the beginning of last week due to the weather, we had to pick it up a notch or two."

Tiffany Bryant had 15 points and five rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings. Leslie Floyd had 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Brittney Wilson also had 11 points.

Green was led by Elista Hall with 16 points.

Symmes Valley is now 11-3 overall and second in the Southern Ohio Conference at 8-2. The Lady Vikings host first place Portsmouth Clay Thursday in an SOC showdown.

"I keep telling our kids that they control their own destiny on getting a piece of the title. My girls are focused on preparing for one game at a time. We need to play all four quarters with the same intensity," coach Bryant said.

The Lady Vikings had just seven turnovers the first half as they built a 27-16 lead at the break.

Hall hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter, but Symmes Valley held its lead at 40-30. The Lady Vikings then outscored Green 20-16 in the fourth quarter to win going away.
