Portsmouth outscores South Point

PORTSMOUTH - The balance of the Portsmouth offense kept the South Point Pointers defense off-balance.

Portsmouth (3-11) had three players with 17 or more points and hit eight 3-pointers as the Trojans outscored the Pointers 78-66 Friday in a non-league game.

Jordan Nelson and Michael Purdy scored 19 points each for Portsmouth while A.J. Johnson had 17 points.

South Point (5-11) had a balanced offense as well. The Pointers placed four players in double figures led by Ryan Hong with a game-high 21 points. Chase McWhorter had 16 points, Jeremiah Taylor 14 and J.T. Terry added 12.

The Pointers also hit eight 3-point goals. Hong had three shots from behind the arc with Terry and McWhorter getting two each.

Portsmouth led 19-12 after the first quarter and both teams had 23 points in the second quarter to make it 42-35 at the half.

The Trojans lead was 60-51 after three quarters.

South Point hosts Coal Grove Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Portsmouth was at Rock Hill Saturday night in a non-league matchup.
