SOUTH POINT - The foundation for success has become quite a monument.

Four years ago, Dave Adams took over the South Point Lady Pointers basketball program and turned to his freshman class to provide the team's foundation for success.

Alisha Bridges, Latisha Koukos and Elisha Joyce are now seniors and they not only helped the Lady Pointers beat the River Valley Lady Raiders 62-41 Wednesday, but also gave South Point its third Ohio Valley Conference championship in four seasons.

"They had to start playing as freshmen because we didn't have many people there. Our plan was to turn the program around and make a winner and they've pretty much done that," Adams said. "They've been a good group. They'll be hard to replace."

Bridges and Koukos have been four-year starters with Joyce playing three of the four years. During the past four seasons, the Lady Pointers have won 52 games including a 16-2 record this season overall and 8-0 in the OVC.

"It's nice to win the league, but we still have some games to play and some goals to accomplish," Adams said.

Jessica Craft scores 20 points and Bridges 18 to lead South Point. Bridges also had 13 rebounds and five assists. Koukos pulled down 12 rebounds.

Christina Naylor had 16 points to lead River Valley (3-15, 1-8).

Craft had 9 points in the first quarter as South Point took a 14-6 lead. Bridges had 6 points and Koukos 5 in the second quarter and it was 29-18 at the half.

Naylor and Beth Payne each had a pair of 3-pointers to keep the Lady Raiders close.

"We missed a lot of layups and free throws," Adams said.

But Craft scored 7 points and Bridges and Craft each hit a 3-pointer as South Point pulled away to a 47-29 lead after three quarters.

South Point plays at Fairland Thursday and hosts Rock Hill Saturday to wrap up league and regular season play.

In the reserve game, South Point won 51-21 as Missy Wheeler and T'Ann Mayo scored 10 points each and Chelsea Damron added 8 points.
