LUCASVILLE - Just think if Chelsea Markins wore number 50.

Markins matched her jersey number by scoring 33 points Monday to lead the Coal Grove Lady Hornets to a 77-36 spanking of the West Union Lady Dragons in the Division III sectional tournament semifinals.

"Chelsea certainly had the hot hand and we made sure she had the ball," Coal Grove coach Nick Miller said. "That's about as well as she has shot the ball all season."

Markins was 8 of 9 from behind the arc and was just one trey off the sectional tournament record of nine 3-pointers.

Samantha Hall had 14 points to back Markins as 10 different players scored.

"We did what we wanted. We got a win and we got some confidence. Hopefully, it will carry over to the next game," Miller said.

Coal Grove (13-8) will now play Lynchburg Clay at 8 p.m. Thursday at Lucasville Valley High School in the sectional finals.

Markins hit three shots from 3-point range as the Lady Hornets took a 19-7 lead in the first quarter.

Coal Grove blew the game open in the second quarter as Markins scored 13 points. Hall added 5 points and Holli Swarts 4 points to make it 41-9 at the break.

Markins continued her assault with three more 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 58-18.

Caymie Collier scored 8 points in the fourth quarter as the Coal Grove reserves outscored the Lady Dragons 19-18.

Natasha Fields led West Union (1-20) with 20 points including 12 in the fourth quarter.
