CHESAPEAKE - It wasn't your usual pick up game.

Playing with little intensity and emotion, the Chesapeake Panthers finally "picked up" their play and cruised past the Rock Hill Redmen 66-30 Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Panthers led by just 4 points at the end of the first quarter and 10 points at the half. But they outscored the Redmen 35-9 in the second half to remain unbeaten.

"We weren't into it early, but once we got some shots to fall we picked up our play," Chesapeake coach Norm Persin said.

"We hustled and played hard, but Rock Hill played hard and got on the floor after loose balls. They played with some intensity, so give them credit."

Trent Finley drained four 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Panthers, ranked second in the Associated Press Division III poll.

"Finley shot the ball pretty well," Persin said. " He got in foul trouble in the second quarter and didn't play much and we subbed in the fourth quarter."

Brennan Hall added 9 points, P.J. Rase had 9 points and four assists, and Matt Whitmore six rebounds and Brent Ransbottom five rebounds for the Panthers (18-0, 9-0).

K.C. Christian had 18 points to lead the Redmen (4-13, 1-7).

Hall and Finley scored 7 points each in the first quarter to offset 7 points by Christian as the Panthers went in front 15-11.

Christian had 7 more points in the second quarter while Ransbottom scored 6 points for the Panthers who extended their lead to 31-21 at the break.

Rase scored all 9 of his points in the third quarter and Chesapeake limited the Redmen to just 6 points as the lead ballooned to 47-27.

The Panthers travel to third-ranked Ironton Tuesday in a showdown of area powers.
