OAK HILL - A two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on State Route 279 in Jackson County claimed the life of a Pedro man and seriously injured five other people, two of whom are his brothers.
According to a statement from the Jackson post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Robert E. Moore, 30, of Ironton was eastbound on that roadway when he apparently failed to negotiate a curve.
His 1999 Ford Contour collided head-on with a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am
driven by Michael A. Willford, 39, of Rutland. Moore's car then went off the left side of the pavement and overturned.
One passenger in Moore's car, Matthew Stewart, 20, of Pedro, was pronounced dead later at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Two other passengers were injured. Charles Stewart, 26, of Pedro was taken to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, as was Moore.
Both of them were treated and released from that facility. Stanley Stewart, 21, also of Pedro was taken to Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. Information about his condition was not available as of press time.
Willford and a passenger in his car, Kent E. Eads, 36, of Rutland were both taken to Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. Information about their conditions was also not available as of press time.
The accident occurred at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday.
