PROCTORVILLE - Four and looking for more.

The South Point Pointers closed out the regular season with their fourth straight win Friday as they beat the Fairland Dragons 72-48.

The Pointers were 20 of 42 from the field for 48 percent as they headed for their postseason matchup Monday against Minford at Jackson High School.

"They're playing well and they're shooting well," Fairland coach Chad Belville said.

A fast 20-2 start set the tone as the Pointers got two straight 3-pointers from J.T. Terry and Chase McWhorter scored 9 points for the 22-9 lead.

McWhorter scored 7 more in the second quarter, but Kyle Wise hit a 3-pointer and Rich Staggs and Daniel Spears had 9 points between them as the Dragons got within 41-26 at the break.

Wise hit two more 3-pointers in the third quarter as Fairland closed the gap to 51-42 only to have Chris Brown hit a three points at the buzzer and extend the lead to 54-42.

'That shot was huge," Belville said. "I told them to get it to single digits and give ourselves a chance. It was just like someone punched us in the gut. It's been the story of our season. They hit a 3 and turned the momentum. But our kids never quit."

Jeremiah Taylor had 7 points in the fourth quarter as South Point continued to pull away. Fairland (3-17, 2-8) was 2 of 14 from the field in the final quarter.

"We missed a lot of wide-open layups all night and we got off to a horrible start," Belville said.

McWhorter led the Pointers (9-11, 6-4) with 18 points. Taylor had 14 points and Terry added 12.

Wise was the only Fairland player in double figures with 16 points.

Fairland will play Belpre at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson. Tickets are on sale at the high school.
