ATHENS - The Chesapeake Panthers lulled the Adena Warriors to sleep, then woke them up with a thud.

After falling behind 7-3 to start the game, the Panthers stormed back and rolled to a 49-33 win Saturday in the Division III district semifinals.

Brennan Hall had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to lead the Panthers. P.J. Rase also had 12 points and Trent Finley 10 points and 4 assists.

Chesapeake (21-1) will play North Adams (21-1) at 4 p.m. next Sunday at Ohio University in the district finals.

Nick Milliken led Adena (16-7) with 16 points.

A couple of layups by Andrew Sowers helped the Warriors to a 7-3 lead with 4:12 left in the first quarter.

Chesapeake woke up and went on a 10-0 run as Justin Porter had 6 of his 7 points including a layup with 35 seconds left to make it 13-7. A layup by Finley before the buzzer pushed the lead to 13-9.

Milliken converted a 3-point play to begin the second quarter and it was 15-12. Jeff Thornburg came off the bench to get two baskets, Hall made a layup and Rase hit a 17-footer as the lead grew to 23-12 with 2:40 left in the half.

Colton Coy got inside for a basket for Adena only to have Rase hit two foul shots and Finley drain a 3-pointer and it was 28-14.

Dylan Givens got a 3-pointer at the horn and it was 28-17 at the break.

Hall made a layup and tipped in his own missed shot to start the second half and Dustin O'Brien added a 12-footer to open up a 34-17 lead at the 4:20 mark.

A 15-footer by Milliken to end the quarter cut the deficit to 40-26.

In the fourth quarter, Rase hit his own 15-footer, Hall followed up his own missed shot and Finley sank a free throw with 3:05 left to give the Panthers their biggest lead at 47-30.

Panthers coach Norm Persin emptied his bench to finish the game.
