Grand jury returns indictments for theft, drug charges

A Lawrence County grand jury
returned indictments late last week against four people accused in a series of eastern end break-ins and three people arrested on drug charges.
Carl Smith, 41, of 2160 State Route 243, Proctorville, was indicted on two counts of second-degree felony burglary and one count of
fifth-degree felony breaking and entering.
Three people accused with him in connection with these and other incidents were indicted as well. Raymond Meredith, 32, was indicted on three counts of fifth-degree felony breaking and
entering, one count of second-degree felony burglary.
Carl Carpenter Jr., 31, of 515 County Road 3, Chesapeake, was indicted on two counts of second-degree complicity to burglary and one count of fifth-degree felony breaking and entering.
Rebecca Mutters, 24, of Huntington, W.Va., was indicted on two counts of fifth-degree felony complicity to breaking and entering. All four are accused of breaking into several residence and businesses in the Proctorville and Chesapeake areas.
According to information from the office of Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier, others indicted last week were:
4Trenton Mize, 23, 63 Township Road 1023, Ironton, two counts of fourth-degree felony trafficking in crack cocaine, one count of third-degree felony trafficking in crack cocaine and one count of fifth-degree felony possession of criminal tools.
4 Nicole McDerment, 25, of Huntington, W.Va., one count of fourth-degree felony complicity to trafficking in crack cocaine.
4 Eric Griffin, 33, one count of fourth-degree felony complicity to trafficking in crack cocaine.
4 William Holton Jr., 23, Jackson, one count of third-degree felony trafficking in OxyContin. with a firearm specification and a drug property specification, one count of third-degree felony possession of a weapon under a disability and one count of fifth-degree felony possession of criminal tools.
4Otis Hogston, 42, 26 Township Road 1377, South Point, one count of third-degree fleeing and eluding, two counts of first-degree felonious assault upon a police officers and one count of third-degree felony intimidation of a police officer. Hogston is accused of leading authorities on a high-speed chase from Hanging Rock to Coal Grove and then fighting with officers who eventually pulled him over and arrested him.
4Robert Lee Adkins, Concover, N.C., two counts of second-degree felony burglary with a firearm specification included in one of the two charges.
4Lawrence Delawder, 41, 714 Vernon St., Ironton, one count of second degree felonious assault of a juvenile and one count of third-degree felony tampering with evidence.
4 Jack Wilson, 28, of 2448 County Road 56, Ironton, fifth-degree felony domestic violence.
4Joseph Profitt, 39, of 79 Township Road 1339, South Point, one count of second-degree felony engaging in a pattern of corrupt behavior.
4 James H. Deer, 25,
1136 County Road 22, Ironton, one count of third-degree felony fleeing and eluding.
4 Tammy Wright, 45, 1205 County Road 123, Chesapeake, one count of fifth-degree felony theft.
