COAL GROVE
- Megan Auxier silenced the opposing bats, but her bat made plenty of noise.
Auxier not only pitched a three-hitter, but she also went 3-for-4 including a double and a home run as the Fairland Lady Dragons beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 6-1 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
"Megan threw a pretty good game, and at the plate she's learning to be more selective," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.
Auxier struck out 11 and did not walk a batter.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when Fairland scored five runs.
Marie Stewart singled and Auxier doubled for the first run. Ashley Graham reached on an error as Auxier scored.
Natalie Elkins and Jennifer Legg walked to load the bases. Danielle Jordan walked to force in a run, Beth Schlegel reached on an error for another run, and Stewart walked to drive in the final run.
Auxier hit a lead off home run over the fence in left field in the fifth inning to make it 6-0.
Coal Grove got its run in the sixth inning when Heather Friend singled, stole second, took third base on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.
Fairland is 11-5 and 5-4 in the OVC.
