SOUTH POINT - The Week of the Young Child ended with a bash.

The Early Childhood Center hosted a carnival Thursday that featured face painting, bike riding, an inflatable slide, a moon walk and a bounce house. The weather was sunny and the students were having a great time.

"I liked the slides," said 4-year-old Brycen McCann. He said he had been looking forward to riding the bikes all day.

The Lawrence County Health Department, Portsmouth Health Department, and the River Cities Safe Kids Coalition gave away bicycle helmets to around 150 students. The helmets were a bit hit among the students as several waited in line for their helmets and then ran to ride the tricycles.

Five-year-olds Zak Landers and Derik Brace said that they enjoyed jumping in the inflatable moon walk and the bounce house the best. They were waiting in line to get their faces painted. Landers said he was going to get a spider painted on his face.

Missy Williams, the Teaching Assistant in Leslie Rickman's class was enjoying the day with her students.

"I was very thankful the weather was so great," Williams said "It's great to see the kids do things they can't normally do at school."

No matter which event they liked the best, everyone was having fun. All agreed the carnival was an exciting and fun conclusion to the Week of the Young.
