PROCTORVILLE - A lot of people enjoy curling up with a good book. Soon, Proctorville residents won't have to drive as far to pick one up.

Southern Ohio Books & More will be opening its doors this week on State Street, in Proctorville. The book store is owned by Buckeye Dog Properties' Jearl Sasser and Mark Anderson. In addition to books, the store also has basic school supplies and school apparel for Chesapeake, Fairland and Symmes Valley and they are preparing to add scrap booking.

"Our whole deal is we want to service the area, be an asset," Jearl Sasser said "We're aiming to go backwards and be the mom and pop deal."

The store offers a great selection of books, which were handpicked by Jearl's wife, Betty Sasser, including children's books, mystery, romance, historical, literature, devotionals, biographies and Oprah's Book Club selections.

Sasser said eventually their main aim is getting into books for Ohio University.

"(We want to) get a primary store and then we can do the satellite sales," he said.

Betty Sasser said that it's more of a general bookstore, with just your basic reading books, and it's not too big that you'll be overwhelmed.

"It's going to be sort of a back to basics where you don't have to look through a million books to find something that appeals to you," she said.

Southern Ohio Books & More is located at 503 State Street in Proctorville. They will be open from 10am to 6pm, Monday through Friday and from 10am to 3pm on Saturday. If you have additional questions, you can contact the bookstore at 886-8786.
