Talk about your team effort.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers got contributions from top to bottom as they won their own invitational track meet Thursday.

"We had 10 different people finish first or second. We shared the wealth. We were very democratic," Ironton coach Tim Thomas said.

Ironton finished with 117 points. Runner-up Portsmouth had 81 points followed by Fairland with 62, South Point 41 and Chesapeake 39.

Ciara Taylor led Ironton's first place finishers as she ran a 1:03.3 to breeze past the field in the 400 meter dash. Taylor also ran the anchor leg on the winning 4×400 meter relay team along with Haley Hasenauer, Brianna McCown and Rachael Payne.

Ironton's Mandi Boykin blistered the field in the 100 meter dash with a 12.6 clocking. Teammate Jessica Waddle was second.

Also taking first for Ironton were Katie Washburn in the 100 meter hurdles, Kayla Wileman in the 300 hurdles and Waddle in the 200 meter dash.

The 4×200 relay team of Kim Murphy, Megan Crockrel, Lissa Hensley and Rachel Walker was second. Murphy, Crockrel, Waddle and Katie Harper were second in the 4×100 relay.

Melanie Elkins was second in the 3200 run, Hensley second in the 100 and 3090 meter hurdles, Walker in the high jump, Harper in the pole vault.

Despite the easy win, Thomas said the Lady Fighting Tigers have plenty of room for improvement.

"We had a good meet, but we know some of the teams were without players to the weather, so we have to get better," Thomas said.

The next area meet is the Chesapeake Invitational on Friday, April 8.
