Lady Dragons slip by Chesy

PROCTORVILLE - A hit in time saves the Fairland nine.

The Lady Dragons used clutch hitting to back the pitching of Megan Auxier as they beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 3-2 in eight innings Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Trailing most of the game, Fairland scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to improve its record to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the OVC.

"We came through when we needed it," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.

Chesapeake got both its runs in the first inning.

Candace Dickerson singled, moved up on a ground out and scored on a hit by Brittany Boyle. After Boyle stole second and third bases, McCallister had an RBI single.

Fairland got within 2-1 in the third inning when Mandy Clark singled and Auxier doubled.

Danielle Jordan tripled and an outfield throwing error allowed Jordan to score as Fairland tied the game in the seventh inning.

The Lady Dragons scored the winning run in the eighth inning with no outs.

Clark walked, Auxier doubled and Stephanie Graham ended the game with an RBI single.

Auxier struck out 10 and walked two as she went the distance to get the win.

Fairland plays at Ironton Tuesday. Chesapeake fell to 8-3 and 3-2 in the league.
