Lady Fighting Tigers split with Trojans, Lady Pirates

The Lady Fighting Tigers combined good pitching and good hitting to beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 10-3 Monday.

"We're a very young team that has great potential. Tonight I saw teamwork," Ironton coach Marissa Fields said. "The bats are finally coming around. Edi Taylor came off the bench and contributed at the plate."

Tracy Mays fired a 4-hitter as she struck out 13 and walked four to get the win.

Ironton had 11 hits with Edi Taylor going 3-for-4, Kelsey Bronson 2-for-5 and Nikki Harbolt 2-4.

WHEELERSBURG - It wasn't a win, but it was a step in the right direction.

Despite losing 8-1 Tuesday to the Wheelersburg Lady Pirates, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers showed signs of improvement.

"Wheelersburg was the runner-up in the state last year and I thought we played very well against them," Ironton coach Marissa Fields said.

"This was Edi Taylor's first start on the mound. Their two to five batters did not get a hit. Unfortunately, we did not take advantage and do well at the plate."

Kelsey Bronson, Edi Taylor and Nikki Harbolt all had base hits for Ironton.
