Lady Pointers top Fairland

SOUTH POINT - Taking one small step has helped the South Point Lady Pointers take an even bigger step.
A 4-1 win over the Fairland Lady Dragons has put the Lady Pointers one step closer to winning the Ohio Valley Conference softball title.
South Point is now 8-4 overall and 7-1 in the OVC. Fairland fell to 10-5 and 4-4 in the league.
Allison Queen got the win as she went six innings striking out six and walking five. Marie Viglianco worked the seventh inning for the save.
Megan Auxier took the loss as she gave up six hits, struck out four and walked four.
Fairland got its run in the top of the first inning.
Marie Stewart walked, moved up on a fielder's choice and came home when Auxier singled.
The Lady Pointers took the lead with three runs in the second inning.
Summer Malone doubled, moved up on a ground out and came home on Whitney Woody's ground out.
Allison Queen singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Jackie Plants. After Plants stole second and third, she scored when Missy Wheeler was safe on an error.
South Point got an insurance in the third inning when Ashley Patrick walked, stole second and came home on a hit by Nichols to right field.
Fairland hosts Gallipolis Tuesday.
