Lady Vikings rip East to clinch share of SOC

SCIOTOVILLE - Winning league championships is becoming a habit for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings routed the Portsmouth East Lady Tartans 21-5 in five innings Wednesday to clinch at least a share of their fourth straight Southern Ohio Conference championship.

Symmes Valley is now 16-2 overall and 12-0 in the SOC. The Lady Vikings have a two game lead with two games to play.

"We clinched at least a tie, so that made for a good evening of work," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said. "We got all the girls in the game and that's good. Everyone is putting the ball in play."

Symmes Valley took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and then exploded for 13 runs in the second inning to go up 17-0.

Emily Bowling hit a three-run run homer and Megan Coomes belted a two-run shot in the Lady Vikings 13-run uprising. Bowling and Coomes each drove in four runs.

Lori Harmon also tripled home two runs in the second inning.

Kristen Crabtree got the win with relief help from Bowling.

The Lady Vikings had 13 hits as Jodi Black, Rebecca Capper, Coomes and Crabtree all went 2-for-2, Harmon 2-3 and Bowling 2-4.

Symmes Valley is scheduled to play Minford Thursday.
