PEDRO - That constant pounding sound isn't a headache, but it could certainly cause one.

The pounding came from the bats of the Rock Hill Redwomen who had 14 hits en route to an 11-3 Ohio Valley Conference win over the River Valley Lady Raiders Wednesday.

"We hit the ball well tonight. I'll take 14 hits any time," Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said.

Melissa McFann went 4-for-4 and Mandy Estep 3-4 to lead the Redwomen. The offensive assault backed the three-hit pitching of Bobbi Harper who struck out seven and walked three.

River Valley jumped ahead with three unearned runs in the top of the first inning.

Leslie Ward was safe on an error, Kari McFann singled and Nicki Tracewell reach on a throwing error as two runs scored. Another error allowed Tracewell to score.

"We had one bad inning, but after that our defense settled down," coach Harper said.

Rock Hill closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning.

Shelli Harper was safe on an error, stole second and came home when Estep singled. McFann then singled to scored Estep.

In the third inning, Rock Hill scored four times to take the lead for good at 6-3.

Bobbi Harper walked, Katrina Settle and McFann singled to load the bases, and Sarah Stamper grounded out as a run scored. Candice Chaffins had a two-run double, Brooke Long walked and Heather Gore was safe on an error as the final run scored.

The lead went to 8-3 in the fourth inning.

Estep singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Bobbi Harper's double. After Harper was thrown out at home, McFann singled and Stamper tripled for the second run.

The final three runs scored in the sixth inning.

Estep doubled to start the rally and Bobbi Harper singled. Settle singled to load the bases and McFann followed with a two-run single. Stamper grounded out as Settle scored.

Rock Hill, 12-4 and 6-2 in the OVC, travels to Fairland Friday. River Valley dips to 1-7.
