CHESAPEAKE - Doing it with "D."

The Rock Hill Redwomen used a strong defensive effort to back the pitching of Mandy Estep as they nipped the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 2-1 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference softball game.

Estep struck out 16 and walked only two as she hurled a four-hitter.

"We played great defense again and Mandy pitched well," Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said. "We had some good defensive players. Heather Gore has really picked up her defense. She had a nice catch."

The game was scoreless until the third inning when the Redwomen pushed across a run.

Heather Gore doubled and went to third base on an outfield error. Shelli Harper then singled to drive home Gore.

Chesapeake tied the game in the sixth inning when Brittany Boyle doubled and Joanna Delimpo singled.

The Redwomen answered by scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Candice Chaffins walked, moved to second base on a wild pitch and raced home on a two-out single by Shelli Harper.

Shelli Harper went 2-for-4 while Bobbi Harper, Melissa McFann, Sarah Stamper, Estep and Gore all had hits.

Rock Hill, 11-4 and 5-2 in the OVC, plays at Greenup County, Ky., Tuesday and hosts River Valley Wednesday.

Chesapeake fell to 10-6.
