Strong hitting gives Redwomen win; Lady Vikings stay unbeaten

COAL GROVE - The bats came alive.
The Rock Hill Redwomen enjoyed a 15-hit day as they beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 9-2 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Bobbi Harper went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple to lead the onslaught. Shelli Harper and Melissa McFann were 2-4 and Katrina Settle 2-5.
"Candace (Chaffins), McFann and Long all hit well today. Bobbi (Harper) had a real good day. She's seeing the ball well. It seemed like everyone contributed," Rock Hill coach Mary Harper said.
Rock Hill went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
Shelli Harper singled, stole second and came home on Bobbi Harper's base hit.
Coal Grove got two runs in the bottom of the inning and led until the fourth inning when the Redwomen tied the game on a triple by Chaffins and a single by McFann.
The Redwomen took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth inning.
Bobbi Harper doubled and Settle singled. McFann then singled to scored Settle.
The lead went to 5-2 in the sixth when Kayla Kelley had a base hit and Bobbi Harper tripled.
Rock Hill scored four insurance runs in the seventh inning.
McFann, Long and Sarah Stamper all singled, Shelli Harper doubled in a pair and Bobbi Harper singled in the final run.
Rock Hill, 2-1 and 1-1 in the OVC, hosts Ironton Thursday and Chesapeake Friday.

AID - The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings are getting the job done.
The Lady Vikings continued to do the job as planned with an 11-0 win over the New Boston Lady Tigers Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
"Our first goal is to take care of the league and we've won four so far. We need to keep climbing to the top," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.
Symmes Valley scored three times in the first inning.
Erin Martin and Emily Bowling singled and Lori Harmon doubled in the runners. Rebecca Capper singled home Harmon.
The Lady Vikings got six runs in the second inning.
Natasha Pointer singled, Martin walked, and Harmon had an RBI single. Megan Coomes singled in a run, Capper walked and Jodi Black was safe on an error as Harmon scored. Three wild pitches scored the next three runs.
The final two runs scored in the third inning.
Martin walked, Bowling singled and the runners moved up on a wild pitch. Coomes hit a sacrifice fly and Capper had an RBI single.
Kristen Crabtree pitched a one-hitter for the Vikings who had 10 hits. Capper was 2-for-2 while Harmon and Bowling went 2-for-3.
Symmes Valley, 5-0 and 4-0 in the SOC, hosts Beaver Eastern Thursday.
