Vikings rout New Boston

NEW BOSTON - The Symmes Valley Vikings ended this one before it started.

The Vikings exploded for seven runs in the first inning en route to an 11-1 win over the New Boston Tigers Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Chase Higgins pitched a four-hitter as he struck out 10 and walked one to get the win.

Symmes Valley, 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the SOC, collected 19 hits with Justin Holland going 4-for-4 with two runs batted in. Cory Burcham, Jon Dillon and Kyle Meadows were 3-4 while Chad Artrip and Higgins 2-4.

Burcham, Holland and Artrip all singled for a run to start the first inning. Dillon singled for a run and Kyle Meadows singled in another run.

Higgins singled for an RBI and Matt Owens doubled in a pair of runs. Derek Carpenter walked, Burcham doubled in a run and Holland singled in the final run.

The Vikings got two runs in the fourth inning.

Dillon doubled to start the inning, Meadows singled and Higgins had a sacrifice fly. Myers capped the rally with a run-scoring single.

The final two runs scored in the fifth.

Holland singled and Artrip doubled to open the inning. A passed ball scored Holland and Meadows capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Symmes Valley plays Monday at Portsmouth Clay.
