COAL GROVE - Randy Wise had his control and that enabled the Coal Grove Hornets to take control.

Wise didn't walk a batter as he pitched the Hornets to a 2-0 two-hit win over the River Valley Raiders Friday.

Besides his control, Wise struck out 11 as Coal Grove improved to 1-2 overall and in the Ohio Valley Conference.

"Randy is usually pretty good with his control. Both pitchers didn't walk a batter," Hornets coach John Jones said.

"We had eight hits which isn't bad, but when you don't walk anybody and you don't make any errors, you're playing pretty good baseball."

Tyler Branch singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a two-out single by Josh Jewell to stake Coal Grove to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The Hornets added an insurance run in the fifth inning.

Jake Allen singled, stole second and darted home on a two-out single by Nick Bazell.

Coal Grove, 1-2 overall and in the OVC, hosted Minford Saturday.
