PROCTORVILLE - Things just seem to even out.
While the Fairland Lady Dragons gave up an error thanks to a physical and a mental error, they got some gift runs in return as they edged the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 3-1 Monday.
"We made a couple of young mistakes, but then we capitalized on some mistakes they made," Fairland coach Leroy Baise said.
Megan Auxier outdueled Ironton's Tracy Mays. Auxier pitched a two-hitter, struck out seven and did not walk a batter while Mays gave up only five hits, fanned 10 and walked two.
Ironton took a 1-0
lead in the second inning when Mays reached on an error, went to second on a ground out, stole third and came home when she beat the throw home after getting caught in a rundown.
Fairland tied the game in the third inning.
Beth Schlegel singled, Marie Stewart put down a sacrifice bunt and Mandy Clark had an RBI single.
The Lady Dragons took the lead with a run in the fourth inning.
Sue Ward singled, stole second and third bases and came home when the throw to third went into the outfield.
In the fifth inning, Fairland added an insurance run as Clark doubled, stole third and scored on a passed ball.
Fairland, 12-5, travels to Gallipolis Tuesday.
