Fairland completes OVC schedule unbeaten

PROCTORVILLE - The run is complete.

The Fairland Dragons completed the Ohio Valley Conference schedule unbeaten with a 9-5 come-from-behind win over the Rock Hill Redmen Thursday.

Fairland is now 18-2 on the season and goes 10-0 in the OVC.

The Redmen outhit the Dragons 14-9 but couldn't get the clutch hit they needed late in the game.

"We could get two hits, we just couldn't get that third or fourth hit bunched together," Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.

Cory McKnight got the win for Fairland as he went the distance. He had seven strikeouts and only one walk. Mike Williams took the loss.

Each team scored a run in the first inning.

Rock Hill got a run when K.C. Christian walked, Matt Wilson reached on a fielder's choice, and Josh Moore and T.J. Blagg had base hits.

Fairland got the run back when Nick Zundel reached on an error, Hill had a single and McKnight reached on an error.

The Redmen took a 4-1 lead in the second inning.

Nick Howard, J.C. Murnahan and Carl Blankenship all singled for a run. Christian put down a sacrifice bunt and Mike Williams had a two-run double.

The Dragons closed the gap to 4-2 with a run in the third inning when Hill singled and moved up on an error. Josh Moore walked and Chris Barrett singled home the run.

Rock Hill went up 5-2 in the fifth inning.

T.J. Blagg had a two-out single, stole second and came home on a double by Mark Anderson.

In the bottom of the inning, Fairland scored three times to tie the game.

McKnight and Adam Fuller singled and Josh Moore doubled for two runs. Trenton Moore singled to drive in the tying run.

Fairland got the winning runs with a four-run rally in the fifth inning.

Hill led off the inning with a walk, stole second and took third on a bad throw. McKnight walked and Fuller was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Trenton Moore hit a two-run single, a wild pitch score a run and the final run came home when Fuller escaped a botched rundown to score.

Williams, Moore, Blagg and Howard were all 2-4 for Rock Hill.

The Redmen, 10-5, host Green Saturday in a doubleheader.
