GALLIPOLIS - The new kid on the block is making his name.

Opponents know what Fairland senior pitchers Michael Hill and Cory McKnight can do, but sophomore Chris Barnett is making it known he is the heir apparent.

Barnett pitched a four-hitter as the Dragons beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 12-1 Tuesday.

Barnett struck out seven and walked one in pitching the six-inning mercy rule game.

"Chris Barnett pitched well. For a sophomore, he's been a pleasant surprise. He throws strikes, he has a little giddy-up and a nice curveball. We're glad to have him for a couple more years," Fairland coach Roger Snyder said.

Adam Fuller slammed a pair of home runs and Hill added a home run as Fairland banged out 10 hits.

Fairland (17-1) got a run in the second inning when Fuller doubled and scored as Josh Moore reached on a throwing error.

After Gallipolis (10-10) tied the game in the third inning, Fairland took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning on a one-out home run by Fuller following a single by Hill.

The Dragons blew the game open with four runs in the fifth inning to lead 7-1.

Trenton Moore was safe on a two-base error and scored on Nick Zundel's base hit.

Todd Maynard singled, Hill hit into a force play and McKnight singled home two runs. Fuller walked and Moore drilled an RBI single to cap the rally.

In the sixth, Moore and Zundel walked, Maynard hit into a force out but Hill cranked a three-run homer. Fuller's second home run of the game - a two-run blast - capped the rally.
