MINFORD - The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings softball machine is running like a well-tuned engine.
All the parts were working Wednesday as the Lady Vikings blanked the Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles 6-0 in the Division IV district semifinals.
"We're clicking on all cylinders. We're hitting to all fields, we're fielding the ball and we're getting good pitching," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep said.
The good pitching came from senior Lori Harmon who fired a two-hitter. She struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Emily Bowling went 3-for-4 to lead a nine-hit attack. Kristen Crabtree was 2-3 and Megan Coomes 2-4.
"We had some clutch hitting tonight," Estep said.
The Vikings wasted little time offensively as they erupted for four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Bowling singled, Harmon was safe on an error and Megan Coomes singled. Rebecca Capper singled across a run, Crabtree singled for a run and a passed ball moved runners up. Jodi Black grounded out to second base as the final run scored.
The Lady Vikings got two more in the fifth inning.
Erin Martin singled to left field with one out and Bowling tripled her home. Harmon hit into a fielder's choice as Bowling scored.
Symmes Valley, 24-4,
