MINFORD - The polls were right.

Symmes Valley, ranked No. 3 in the coaches poll, blanked No. 4-ranked Leesburg Fairfield 4-0 Saturday to win the Division IV district championship.

"They were ranked fourth in the coaches' poll, so that's a good win against a very good team," Lady Vikings coach Jeff "Odie" Estep.

The Lady Vikings, 25-4, will play at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the regional semifinals against Trimble at Pickerington Central High School.

The Lady Vikings played in the regional semifinals last season at Pickerington.

Lori Harmon fired a two-hitter as she ran her record to 18-2. Harmon struck out 10 and walked just one.

"Harmon pitched real well and our catcher Megan Coomes did a nice job holding onto third strike foul tips and controlling the game," Estep said.

Symmes Valley did all its scoring in the first two innings.

The Lady Vikings got off to a 2-0 start in the first inning.

Erin Martin tripled down the right field line and Emily Bowling had a double down the left field line. Harmon then singled up the middle to score Bowling.

The lead went to 4-0 with two outs in the second inning.

Kayla Justice walked, Martin singled and Bowling cranked a two-run double over the centerfielder's head.

Bowling went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Martin was 2-4 and Harmon 1-3 as Symmes Valley managed five hits.

"The top of our lineup did all the hitting today. We need to get the rest of the lineup hitting because we'll see some good pitching in the regionals," Estep said.

Leesburg Fairfield ends the season 22-2.
