COLUMBUS — Lovell Medcalf is going back to Columbus, only this time he is trading up.

By finishing third in the Division II district meet Saturday at Columbus Academy High School, the Ironton Fighting Tigers senior tennis standout will play in the state meet in Columbus next week at Ohio State University.

Medcalf beat John Buell of New Albany 6-3, 6-3, and Rafael Natalino of Big Walnut, 6-1, 6-1 on Friday.

In the Final Four Saturday, Medcalf lost 6-2, 6-0 to Bryce Warren of DeSales, but beat Tyler Adams of Wheelersburg 7-5, 6-3 to take third place.
