Ironton Sr. League relies on Rakes, bats in 10-0 win
SOUTH WEBSTER - Chris Rakes is very stingy, but it's a good quality in the eyes of his teammates.
Rakes allowed just three baserunners as the Ironton Senior League blanked Rock Hill 10-0 Friday in the District 11 Senior League All-Star tournament.
Rakes gave up only two hits he walked one batter for the three baserunners.
Conversely, Ironton banged out 14 hits led by Ryan Waginger who went 3-for-4 and Nick Lewis who was 3-5. Wes 'Sampson" Runyon and Drew Kuehne were 2-3.
Seth Keuhne, T.J. Keith, Jeremy Moore and Ryan Schwab all added hits.
J.C. Murnahan and Eric Davidson had the Rock Hill hits, both doubles.
Ironton scored twice in the first inning when Rakes walked and Lewis, Runyon and Drew Kuehne all singled.
The lead went to 3-0 in the second inning as Ryan Allen and Rakes walked, Keith was safe on an error and Waginger singled.
Two more runs scored in the four inning with one out.
Lewis doubled, Keith walked, Waginger singled to load the bases and Drew Kuehne delivered a clutch two-run single.
Ironton capped the scoring with five runs in the sixth inning.
Keith, Waginger and Runyon all singled to load the bases. Drew Kuehne was safe on an error as a run scored and Seth Keuhne had an RBI single. Schwab had a two-run single and Lewis got a base hit to drive home the final run.
Rock Hill's only scoring threat came in the third inning when Davidson led off with a double but was thrown out by Seth Kuehne while attempting a stolen base with two outs.
Ironton plays at 6 p.m. Monday against the winner of Newville and Green.
