These business leaders saw a need and decided to do something about it.

Five local businesses will have a fund-raiser Saturday to benefit the Lawrence County Domestic Violence Shelter.

Bob Vinson, of Tri-State Drivers Intervention Program, said the purpose is to raise money for the shelter and to make people aware of the problem of domestic violence.

"We'd like to raise a thousand dollars. We've had some donations already. If we can raise a thousand dollars that would be marvelous," Vinson said.

This is the first time these businesses have collectively opted to sponsor an event for the shelter. The other businesses are Walt Butler Insurance and Finance, Patriot Ambulance, Consumer Card Systems and Southern Ohio Behavioral Health.

Vinson said there will be various giveaways. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be on sale.

The musical entertainment will be Allen Mullens and the Rednecks. There will also be fingerprinting and balloons for the children. WLGC radio will participate in the event as well.

The fund-raiser will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the plaza at Third and Center streets in downtown Ironton.
